These are movies that we found in 10 rather large boxes at an estate sale for 5 bucks a box. It was being held in a barn about 15 miles west of Austin TX. There were some old records (which we also bought) some rusted tools, tons of paint cans, various other bits of old useless junk, and these boxes. The people running the estate sale didn't seem to know that they were there and priced them for us on the spot. The films vary in formats ranging from old 35mm stock reels to betamax. We also see...

This is his academic film masterwork, which took over a year to create, over 13 weeks to film, and utilized "traveling mattes," with as many as five separate films running in the background, showcasing wonderful models and graphics. About the making of the film, Tom Smith writes: "I made that film in 1976 with Richard Basehart as narrator and a...

Dots resembling stars or atoms and galaxies with shooting stars are created on the screen. The stars then order themselves into lines. Exploding sunbursts end the film. The film includes interference pattern imagery Belson created for the famous San Francisco Vortex Concerts (1959-1960). "I think of Allures as a combination of...

Excerpt from a live VJ performance by Doktor Hoo, Jeff Mission, and Karen Lane, during a set by Moshi vs. Omen at Axis nightclub, Boston, MA. Moshi vs. Omen is a hybrid electronic act - a DJ set with live keyboards layered on top. It's a nice combination - the precision of a perfectly locked rhythm, matched with the fluidity of live synth melodies. Mixing live cameras with abstract imagery, the VJs create a dream-like visual remix of the moment as it is happening. Because our projection screens...

On the surface, this film may seem like an average science film about time and space, but like most of films from the Moody Institute of Science, there is an ulterior motive. The films host Irwin Moon had an interest in science as a child and later incorporated that interest into his life as a pastor. He would tour the country giving his Sermons of Science where the marvels of science provide the visible evidence of a Divine plan of creation. His work with GIs during World War II showed him the...

Film preservation, or film restoration, describes a series of ongoing efforts among film historians, archivists, museums, cinematheques, and non-profit organizations to rescue decaying film stock and preserve the images which they contain. In the widest sense, preservation nowadays assures that a movie will continue to exist in as close to its original form as possible. By the 1980s, it was becoming apparent that the collections of motion picture heritage were at risk of becoming lost. Not only...
